Free Dental check-up Camp for underprivileged children

Lucknow 4th February 2023: AWOKE India Foundation, a Lucknow-based non-profit organization, organized a Free Dental check-up Camp for the underprivileged children of Awoke Learning And Knowledge Home (ALAKH) at Vijayipur, Vishesh Khand 3 Gomti Nagar. More than 32 children between 4 to 15 years of age participated in the camp. The main aim behind the camp was to spread awareness about oral hygiene from an early age. Dr. Tanu Tewari, Dentist, Associate Professor KGMU examined the kids, diagnosed their problems and shared her views on the importance of dental treatment.
Speaking on the occasion Dr Tanu Tewari said, “Kids at this age are very energetic, they play a lot and eat a lot. But little do they focus on their teeth. Poor oral hygiene can result in various problems. So, it is important for them to understand the importance of maintaining dental cleanliness.”

Underprivileged children struggle to have access to basic needs like food, clothing and shelter. Once these needs are met, they will be able to focus on larger goals, including that of education. However, concepts like dental hygiene remain so far out of their world, that they either treat it as a luxury or not important at all.
With the mission to spread a smile, promote education, nurture good health, offer support and create opportunity, the Dental Check-up Camp was concluded by taking a promise by the children to brush their teeth twice daily.
